Welcome to my online Family Tree!
This site centers around the the union of
Martin L. Peck & Mary M. Taylor,
and their family histories, present and past.
I began research into my family in 2002, and I recently began researching the Peck
family also. Some of the surnames being researched are:
Peck, Taylor, Hess, Baldwin, Blankenship, & Moser.
These are surnames from both sides.
Take your time and look around my site. I have spent countless hours gathering the information I
have so far. I believe most of the information I have here to be accurate, but if you find anything
that you believe is not, feel free to contact me. Genealogy research is a never-ending endeavor,
so this is a work-in-progress. Your contributions may be of assistance in collecting information
that may bridge a gap to much more interesting information.
I was recently able to track one family line all the way back to Switzerland with the birth of
Moser Joder in Joder Huebel, Bern, Switzerland in 1234. Moser Yoder's 9x grandson, Andreas Moser
immigrated somewhere between his birth in 1603 and death in 1671 bringing the family line to
Germany, as he died in 1671 in Altengreuth, Ansbach, Bayern, Germany. The 13x grandson of Moser
Yoder and great great grandson of Andreas Moser, Lehnert 'Leonard' Mohsser, brought the family
line to the United States with his immigration from Germany in 1732 on the ship "Adventure"
arriving in Philadephia, Pennsylvania at the age of 14.
The daughter of Lehnert 'Leonard' Mohsser (14x granddaughter of Moser Yoder & great great great
granddaughter of Andreas Moser) introduced another ancestry into the family line with her marriage
to immigrant, Jacob Hesse, born in Moustorft, Alsace Province, France in 1745. Jacob was a part of
the Lauzun's Legion, Deux Ponts Regiment in French Army between 1779 and 1782. Jacob immigrated to
the United States somewhere between 1782 and the birth of his son, Henry in 1793 in Rowan County,
North Carolina, United States. Spelling with last names were often changed, probably either by
misspelling in immigration records, to make the name easier to spell or pronounce, or to improve
their employment opportunities as immigrants in a new country. I have recorded people in this
family tree with their birth name in those instances.
Currently, the family line of Jacob Hesse has only been tracked back to the birth of his father,
Valentine Hesse in Alsace Province, France in 1720. I am searched for more information on this
family line, as I know "Hesse" is a surname originating in Germany as well.
If anyone has any additional information, photos (especially old ones), documents, stories, or
anything they would like to share, please feel free to contact me through the website or by
emailing me at lisa.milanese@outlook.com. Any help in my research would be greatly appreciated.
Please visit & sign the guestbook & leave a message for other family members if you
wish.
PECK- English: The surname of Peck
derives from the Old English work pekke, indicating the top of a mountain or hill,
and was a local name distinguishing a person who lived by a prominent peak. When the
ancestors of the Peck family emigrated to England following the Norman Conquest in 1066, they
brought their family name with them. They lived in Denbighshire in Wales.
Alternate Surname Spellings: PEC, PICK, BECK
In England, most Peck families settled on the eastern coastal counties. The higher concentration of
Peck families are in Suffolk, Norfolk, Yorkshire Lincolnshire and especially in the city of London.
A German spelling for Peck is Beck. In German it referred to a person who sold pitch.
In Dutch the Peck name is Pec or Pick and indicates a person in a melancholy temper.

TAYLOR- English: This is an English surname but of French origins. It derives from the
word "tailleur" meaning "a cutter-out of cloth", the surname being adopted from the medieval job
description after the 12th century.
It would seem that tradition dictates that the spelling as tailor refers to the trade of tailoring,
whilst Taylor, Tayler, Tailour and Taylour are the surname forms, but this is arguable. What is
certain is that the surname is extremely popular, and in England ranks second only to Smith in the
surnames listing. It is said that over the centuries its numbers have been swelled by its adoption
as the English forms of various equivalent continental names such as Schneider, Szabo, and Portnov,
which have entered into Britain mainly as refugee names.
Early examples of the surname recording taken from surviving rolls and registers of the medieval
period include: William le Taillur in the Pipe Rolls of the county of Somerset in 1182, and Roger
le Taylur in the Hundred Rolls of Lincolnshire in 1273.
Among the many Taylors recorded in history are Zackary Taylor (1784 - 1850), the 12th president of
the Unites States. He was a famous soldier who played a large part in the independence of Texas
from Mexico, whilst Jane Taylor (1783 - 1824), was a famous childrens author whose works included
the poem "Twinkle, twinkle, little star".
The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Walter Taylur. This was dated
1180, in the records of Canterbury Cathedral, during the reign of King Henry 11nd, 1154 - 1189.
Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to
astonishing variants of the original spelling.
